The CTEK MXS 5.0 is built to make sure that never happens. It is the most trusted 12V smart charger in India, used by car enthusiasts, workshops, and OEM manufacturers like BMW, Ducati, Rolls-Royce, and Porsche. Critically for Indian cars, the MXS 5.0 has a dedicated AGM mode. Most post-2018 Indian cars — Creta, Nexon, Honda City, Swift — come with AGM batteries from the factory. AGM batteries cannot be safely charged with a basic charger. The MXS 5.0 protects battery chemistry and extends life significantly.
How It Works
The 8-step process explained

Desulphation
Detects and attempts to recover a heavily sulfated battery by sending high-voltage pulses to break down lead sulphate crystals.

Soft Start
Tests if the battery can accept a charge. If the battery is too damaged, the charger stops safely and shows an error.

Bulk Charge
Charges at full 5A current until the battery reaches approximately 80% capacity. This is the fastest phase.

Absorption
Reduces current as the battery approaches full charge to avoid overheating and gassing.

Battery Analysis
Analyses the battery to determine if it can hold a full charge. Identifies weak batteries that need replacement.

Recondition (optional)
Hold MODE button 5 seconds to activate. Charges to a higher voltage to dissolve deep sulphation — recovers batteries that appear completely dead.

Float Maintenance
Holds battery at 100% with a constant low-level charge. Safe to leave connected indefinitely.

How To Use
Step-by-step instructions
Connect the red clamp to the positive (+) terminal, black clamp to the negative (−) terminal.
Plug the charger into a 230V socket. The charger starts automatically.
For AGM batteries (most post-2018 Indian cars): press the MODE button once before connecting. The AGM indicator light will illuminate.
For a completely dead battery: connect as normal, then hold the MODE button for 5 seconds to activate RECOND mode. Leave for 12–24 hours.
The green light indicates a fully charged battery. The charger automatically switches to maintenance mode — safe to leave connected.

CTEK chargers use a multi-step algorithm — they assess battery condition, desulfate if needed, charge at the optimal rate, and switch to maintenance mode automatically. Safe to leave connected indefinitely.
Can I charge an AGM battery with a standard charger?
No — AGM batteries require a specific voltage ceiling and charging profile. A standard charger will overcharge an AGM battery and destroy it. All CTEK chargers with an AGM mode are safe for AGM batteries.
How often should I charge my car battery?
If you drive daily, your alternator keeps the battery charged. But if the car sits unused for more than 2 weeks, connect a charger. In Indian summers, charge and test every 3 months — heat is the primary cause of early battery death.
