Why the CTEK MXS 3.8 -?

The CTEK MXS 3.8 is the right charger for motorcycles, scooters, and older small cars with traditional lead-acid batteries. It uses the same proven 8-step charging algorithm as the MXS 5.0 but at a gentler 3.8A output — better suited for smaller batteries that would be stressed by 5A. The temperature sensor automatically adjusts the charging voltage based on ambient temperature, which matters in India where workshop temperatures can swing from 10°C in winter to 45°C in summer. At the wrong voltage, even a healthy battery can be overcharged.

The 8-step process explained

1
Desulphation
Pulses to recover sulfated batteries that won't take a normal charge.
2
Soft Start
Safety check — confirms the battery can accept charge before beginning.
3
Bulk Charge
3.8A charge to 80% capacity quickly.
4
Absorption
Reduced current to reach 100% without overheating the battery.
5
Battery Analysis
Tests charge retention — identifies weak batteries.
6
Recondition
Optional deep recovery for badly sulfated batteries.
7
Float
Continuous low-level charge — safe for extended periods.
8
Pulse Maintenance
Periodic top-up pulses for storage. Perfect for bikes parked for the monsoon.

Step-by-step instructions

Connect red clamp to positive (+) terminal, black to negative (−).
Plug into 230V. Charging starts automatically.
For bikes with small batteries (under 10Ah): the charger handles them safely at 3.8A.
For storage: leave connected — the pulse maintenance mode keeps the battery perfect for months.
Green light = fully charged and in maintenance mode.

Not suitable for: Modern start-stop cars with AGM batteries — use MXS 5.0 instead. Large SUVs — use MXS 7.0.

vs other options

vs MXS 5.0: The 5.0 is better for cars — faster and handles larger batteries with full AGM support. The 3.8 is the right choice for bikes, scooters, and older small cars with 12–45Ah batteries. If you're not sure, get the MXS 5.0 — it handles everything the 3.8 does, plus more.

Common questions

How is a CTEK charger different from a cheap charger?
A basic charger pushes current until you disconnect it, which can overcharge and damage the battery. CTEK chargers use a multi-step algorithm — they assess battery condition, desulfate if needed, charge at the optimal rate, and switch to maintenance mode automatically. Safe to leave connected indefinitely.
Can I charge an AGM battery with a standard charger?
No — AGM batteries require a specific voltage ceiling and charging profile. A standard charger will overcharge an AGM battery and destroy it. All CTEK chargers with an AGM mode are safe for AGM batteries.
How often should I charge my car battery?
If you drive daily, your alternator keeps the battery charged. But if the car sits unused for more than 2 weeks, connect a charger. In Indian summers, charge and test every 3 months — heat is the primary cause of early battery death.
Is it safe to leave a CTEK charger connected for months?
Yes. CTEK chargers automatically switch to pulse maintenance mode once charging is complete. They deliver tiny pulses to keep the battery at 100% without overcharging. Many customers leave them connected for the entire monsoon/winter storage period.
