ZDDP zinc supplement for flat-tappet and classic engines. Critical protection for pre-1990 engines.
ZDDP (Zinc Dialkyl Dithiophosphate) is the primary anti-wear additive in engine oil. Modern oils have reduced ZDDP levels due to catalytic converter compatibility requirements. However, pre-1990 engines with flat-tappet camshafts (rather than roller tappets) depend on high ZDDP levels for camshaft and lifter protection. Running a classic engine on modern low-ZDDP oil without supplementation accelerates camshaft wear significantly. The Hy-per Lube ZDDP supplement restores the ZDDP level to what pre-1990 engines were designed to run on.
This is a specialist product for pre-1990 classic vehicles with flat-tappet engines. Modern engines (post-1990 with roller tappets) do not require ZDDP supplementation — their oil already contains appropriate levels.
