Why the Autool CS520 OBD Scanner?

The CS520 goes beyond basic OBD2 scanners that only read engine codes. It accesses all major vehicle systems — engine, ABS, SRS airbag, transmission, and body electronics. When your ABS warning light comes on, a basic OBD2 scanner reads nothing — the ABS system requires a scanner with enhanced coverage. The CS520 reads and clears codes across all these systems, making it a significant tool for any mechanic or car owner who wants real diagnostic capability.

The 6-step process explained

1
Connect
Plug into the OBD2 port under the dashboard (16-pin socket, usually below steering column).
2
Auto-Detect
Scanner automatically identifies the vehicle protocol and available systems.
3
System Selection
Choose which system to diagnose: Engine, ABS, SRS, Transmission, or Body.
4
Read Codes
Displays fault codes with descriptions — no need to look up code numbers separately.
5
Live Data
View real-time sensor data to diagnose intermittent faults that don't always trigger codes.
6
Clear Codes
After repairing the fault, clear the code to turn off the warning light.

Step-by-step instructions

Locate OBD2 port — under dashboard, driver's side, usually no cover needed.
Plug in CS520 with engine off. Turn ignition to ON (not start).
Select the warning light system that is illuminated.
Read codes — note down the code numbers and descriptions.
After repair, select CLEAR CODES to reset the warning light.

Not suitable for: Pre-2001 vehicles — no OBD2 port. Requires service resets (oil, DPF) — use CS606 instead.

vs other options

vs KW850/KW350: These read engine codes only. If your ABS or airbag light is on, you need the CS520. vs CS606: The CS606 adds special functions (DPF, EPB, oil reset, TPMS) and is more comprehensive. For a mechanic without a full-system scanner, the CS520 is the right starting point.

Common questions

Where is the OBD2 port in my car?
Almost always under the dashboard on the driver's side — look for a 16-pin trapezoid-shaped socket. In most Indian cars it is just to the left or right of the steering column, often without a cover.
Will reading fault codes damage my car's ECU?
No. An OBD scanner is read-only — it reads data the ECU is already storing. It cannot write to or modify your ECU. Clearing fault codes also only clears the stored memory, not any underlying issue.
If I clear the fault code, does the problem go away?
No — clearing the code only turns off the warning light. If the underlying issue is still present, the light will come back on within a few drive cycles. The correct use is: read the code, fix the problem, then clear the code to confirm it doesn't return.
What is the difference between a basic OBD scanner and a professional one?
A basic scanner (KW350, KW850) reads and clears engine fault codes only. A professional scanner (CS520, CS606) reads all systems — engine, ABS, airbag, transmission, TPMS — and can perform service resets like oil interval reset, EPB, and DPF.
